Shaftsbury, Dorset

A new timber terrace was constructed at first floor which tied in with an existing terrace adjacent to the house. A new swimming pool was also erected from in-situ concrete with a beam and block poolside slab.

The swimming pool was formed on the side of a hill and if the pool had have been built traditionally this would not be located within a uniform layer of soil which could have risked differential settlement following completion. Therefore an innovative solution was developed to achieve a uniform founding level without requiring deep excavations and large quantities of earth moving.

The pool access required excavations against a large existing masonry retaining wall necessitating very careful construction, so we provided a method statement as well as continual dialogue with the contractor to ensure all work was completed safely and to a high standard.
