Sherborne Girls Sixth Form Centre
This existing building underwent extensive alteration work to provide suitable boarding accommodation for students. The roof insulation was upgraded significantly, requiring an analysis of the existing structure to determine its residual capacity, which resulted in the roof elements being retained with a minor strengthening element.
The ground floor load bearing walls within the centre of the building were removed requiring some large structural steel beams to support the floors and roof above. Site visits were undertaken once work had commenced so value engineering could be completed based on newly available information following the strip out. This reduced the need for additional demolition and rebuilding of two structural walls.
Temporary works design was also provided to the contractor to assist with their demolition and rebuild.
This project is due for completion in 2023.
